General Liability Insurance

Terra Dotta University has general liability insurance which provides coverage for claims of bodily injury and property damage against the University arising out of negligent actions of the insured party.  However, other groups are not covered by the University's General Liability Insurance.  These groups may include, but are not limited to visiting professors and researchers, and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and their individual members.  Due to the nature of some activities for these groups, the risk of personal injury and property damage may be greater, and therefore would be required.  

Activities that would not require general liability insurance:

  • Group meetings
  • On-campus events and programs intended for and attended by the University community and students
  • Campus space reservations
  • RSOs dance practices
  • All RSOs meetings and events within student union facilities

Activities that would require general liability insurance:

  • Any activity set within a laboratory
  • Athletic events
  • Activities and events to which the general public is the primary audience
  • Activities and events involving the use of amusement devices (e.g. rides, slides, inflatables, bungees, climbing walls, dunk tanks)
  • Activities and events which involve animals
  • Events and activities as determined by Terra Dotta University's Office of Risk Management to be a potential risk to the University or its students, faculty or staff members.

Where general liability insurance is required, these groups will be required to provide proof of insurance in order to conduct events and activities at University facilities.  In these cases, insurance requirements for these groups must be consistent with that of the terms of Terra Dotta University's General Liability Insurance.
